Volunteer Opportunities at
Southside Family Nurturing Center
We are always looking for volunteers to help either in our programs working with parents and children, or with one-time building related projects. Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:
Family Day/Night Meal Assistant: Family Days take place twice a month on Fridays (11am-1pm) and Family Nights take place once a month on Thursday evenings (5-8pm). We can always use assistance in preparing and serving the family-style meals we provide to to the parents and children who attend these events. This would be a good opportunity for one or two people.
Preschool Playground Assistant: Our preschool class goes to the playground across the street everyday from approximately 11am-12pm. We can always use an extra adult hand or two to help walk across the street and watch the kids in the playground.
Latino Family Night Assistant: work with client families during this monthly recreational event doing art or other projects, assist with meals, and help clean up. Spanish proficiency is required as this is a Spanish-only event. Latino Family Nights take place once a month on Monday evenings from 5-8pm.
Latino Family Night Cook: cook meals for approximately 30 client parents and children and help with clean up during this monthly recreational event for Latino families in our program. Spanish language skills are helpful, but not required. Latino Family Nights take place once a month on Monday evenings from 5-8pm.
Family Night Kids Group Assistant: work with children to do activities, such as craft or other projects, in the Baby, Toddler, Preschool/School Age or Teens group during this weekly Family event. Family Nights take place on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm October-May.
One-time projects:
Outdoor Spring Clean-up: help clean-up and prepare our garden and outdoor areas around the building.
Indoor and Outdoor Painting and Maintenance projects: we have lots of small painting and building maintenance projects both outside and inside the building that would be great for a group of volunteers!
Natural Playscape Implementation: We will begin creation of our natural playscape in the summer of 2012; this would be a great opportunity for groups of volunteers to assist with pea gravel removal and placement of sod, planting and landscaping, and installation of outdoor classroom elements.
Mailing Assistance: Approximately five times each year, we send out large mailings to our supporters, including newsletters and letters. We can always use support in folding, stuffing, and preparing these mailings. Contact Julia for more detailed information.
Administrative Assistance: We frequently have administrative tasks such as organizing files or paperwork that we can use assistance with. Please contact Barb for details if you are interested in administrative work.
Spanish Translation: We have many Spanish-speaking families and we can use assistance with translating parent information, forms, and documentation into Spanish for families.
