Infant-Parent Development Program
SSFNC is pleased to be a partner in this new program that is part of the Metro Alliance and is funded by Hennepin County. The Infant-Parent Development Program is an early intervention program that seeks to prevent abuse and neglect at the earliest stage possible. This program will offer clinical services to families at risk for abuse and neglect. Eligible participants will be referred from many sources-such as county social services, community agencies, health and mental health clinics, physicians and public health nurses-and will include:
- Mothers/parents, age 13 years and older
- Parents expecting their first child, or with a first child under the age of three months
- Families facing multiple risk factors, such as chemical dependency, history of domestic violence, physical, or sexual abuse, or mental health issues.
Families enrolled in this program will receive weekly home visits that will offer families services such as: concrete and emotional support, developmental guidance, advocacy, infant -parent observations and psychotherapeutic services. All services are provided to families free of charge.
The Program Works With New Families To:
- explore how parents' history and current life circumstances influence their relationship with their child,
- share information about child development to help parents form realistic expectations for their child, and
- access community resources to assist parents in meeting their child's and family's developmental needs.
