PARENTS BUILD STRONG FUTURES: FROM ADHD TO HIGH SCHOOL HONOR ROLL

When Robin came to Southside, she had difficulty paying attention, sitting still, and listening to other children or teachers. Jenna, Robin’s mother, was dealing with difficulties both in her marriage and in her family of origin, and she knew her two-year-old daughter needed help.

At Southside Robin received therapies that revealed a diagnosis of ADHD, and consequently the kind of care from teachers and others that made life better for herself, and for her mother. Southside focuses on generational change; as children receive therapies, learning to play with others, to share feelings, to be part of a group, so too parents learn to be the best they can be.

Robin’s mother participated fully in Southside’s programs, including classroom, home visits, and family days. Over time, Jenna became a strong advocate for Robin, making sure she had what she needed at every step to succeed. And succeed she did. In 2016, Jenna stood proudly watching Robin graduate from high school with all A’s and B’s. Robin had the tools to succeed and we are so proud of her, Jenna and other families who defy their circumstances, and with support, move forward in their lives.
